Make Up Review | Make Up For Ever

Make Up Forever’s Waterproof Eyebrow Corrector

This product is a thick liquid Eyebrow Corrector. It received several poor reviews since it’s a little intimidating for the average makeup user to apply. I, however, LOVE it. I have the No. 3 Shade: Dark Ash Brown.

You’ll need any thin angled brush to apply this product to your eyebrows.

Pros:

  • Will keep your unruly eyebrows tamed. It double acts as a gel to keep your eyebrows in place.
  • The application is precise giving you finely shaped brows.
  • You can control the boldness from light to extremely bold.
  • Goes on smooth
  • Stays longer than a powder
  • A little will go a long way

Cons:

  • It’s not exactly waterproof. It will smudge like any other eyebrow corrector if you rub your brows. But who does that?
  • Needs an angled brush for proper application.
  • You’ll need to practice to get your ideal look.
  • Cholas will love this product.

Aldo Finds

February 13, 2010

The last time I shopped at an Aldo shoes store was back in Y1K99 before I headed to a college town that lacked similar stores from Boston, Massachusetts. Nonetheless, the shopping possibilities of Y2K10 is versatile because of the magic of the internet.

Was browsing aldoshoes.com today and came across some great affordable finds:

LUST | Balenciaga: The First | $1,500 (on sale)
MUST | Aldo: Narquist | $40

Other Stuff I thought looked great (click picture for more details):

Before & After | Kelly Osbourne

February 12, 2010

How great does Kelly Osbourne look? She was photographed last night during a fashion event at the New York Fashion Week 2010. From The Osbourne’s, to the musical Chicago, to rehab, to Dancing With The Stars, Kelly has never looked so good. Her haircut and her shade of blond becomes her. She has come a long way, not only physically, but she has also matured. Beautiful! Congratulations on the weight loss Kelly! It’s not an easy thing to do – but you look fierce!! :-)

Lady Gaga | White Out

February 12, 2010

Even when Lady Gaga is off camera or while she is walking around the city, she is an entertainer. The world is her stage. In several interviews she says that she constantly has to work on creating different looks for every day life, which is a lot of effort, even for her. She’s a hard worker and it shows on her escalating success.

Lady Gaga was recently seen with the outfit/look above. As much as I love being surprised by her outrageous getup/costumes/looks, I am not loving the above because it’s asking for a whole world of criticism. The complete white out and the beads on her face already received many wrongful, yet funny, comments on dlisted.com.

Here’s a few tips for the completeWhite Out” / “Vampire Pale” look:

  1. Even Blending + Concealer | Make sure to even out the blending of your pale, white out look. You don’t want to end up with a splotchy, multicoloured face. Make sure you watch for the under eye dark circles and conceal, conceal, conceal!
  2. Natural Light | Use natural light when applying makeup. If you don’t have one, go near a sun lit window to make sure everything is blended thoroughly.
  3. Accessories | Limit this to faux lashes. Additional face accessories, like the one above, is looking for negative feedback.
  4. White Teeth | If you’re going for the total white/pale look, everything else that seemed to be white will look yellow. Check your teeth. Make sure you whiten them so that they don’t appear yellow. There are a few whiteners in the drug store for you to try. Most of them work really well. If you want to go for broke, go to your dentist to get your teeth whitened.
  5. Sclera Check | Similar to the above, make sure everything that seemed to be white will stay white, not yellow or red. Be sure to check the sclera of your eyes, the white area. To get the redness out, simply apply 2 drops of any redness reliever eye drops. I recommend the Rohto V Eye Drops featured by Michelle Pham on her, Lady Gaga Bad Romance Look video in youtube. (See her before and after shots below)

That’s pretty much it. Remember that there’s a fine line between classy creative and just plain rediculous. Be careful not to cross over to looking rediculous.

Stunning, romantic, and captivating gown. Perfection.

“One-piece, slim line gown with
one-shoulder neckline and corset
closure. A picturesque gown of extraordinary
contemporary style. Sultry with a single floral
embellished shoulder strap, yet soft with
billowing chiffon, this gown will define the
ultimate getaway nuptials.”

MaggieSottero.com

Our June 2008 wedding was a hot mess, which ended up to be the most stressful day of our lives. After that event, we both agreed that we are going to re-do our wedding someday. Someday is next year! We decided to have a simple destination vow renewal ceremony in the BAHAMAS for early 2011! I’m so excited! I feel like I just got engaged AGAIN!!

I’ll be featuring more wedding gowns in the future and more wedding related entries – probably even after our vow renewals. I just love wedding planning and etc. I absolutely miss it, without the drama of course.

The gown above is what I’m falling in love with right now. It’s too early to pick a dress but the one above is just beautiful – perfect for a destination wedding. Maggie Sottero dresses are impeccable!

Winter Blues (Literally)

February 9, 2010

Winter Blues | Shoes

I am a sucker for anything blue! Not just any blue, bright royal blue. It’s such a rare color seldom seen worn by people. Wearing BLUE is a bold statement that emanates nonchalance, confidence, and assurance. It says that you don’t conform to society, you march to the beat of your own drum, and you’re on top of your game – no one can knock you down.

So to beat the winter blues, a new meaning must be defined, by making it literal: wear anything blue during the winter. Break out of that black, gray, brown, and depressing colors and start to bring out your coloure blue!

Below are some bags, and beauty items (shoes are above) I put together (each item under $100) to literally put back the spirit back to winter dullness. (Click on the image for further detail on an item)Winter Blues | Bags

Gossip Girl : Blake Lively Fashion

February 8, 2010

A while back, Blake Lively was seen wearing this outfit. Granted she may never wear it again since celebrities are rarely seen with the same outfit twice, but this look is timeless. A classic white top paired with jeans will never go out of style. I also love its laid back, city chic, casual look.

Kudos 01: Blake’s style is either a hit or miss (in my opinion). And this outfit is a definite hit!

Kudos 02: Blake’s jeans from the picture is from American Eagle. I love how she shops at affordable stores that can be easily accessed through the mall.

Kudos 03: Her outfit is easy to find anywhere!

Below I put together a similar ensemble at an affordable cost.

* Remember, you don’t have to spend
thousands to look fabulous and expensive. *

Casual Style - Blake Lively
Items in this set:
Women’s – Tanks + Camis – American Eagle Outfitters, $16
Daytrip Crochet Back Vest, $27
Womens Artist Jeans – Dark Indigo Wash, $30

Fabulous Drug Store Finds

February 7, 2010

{ Loreal Paris | Lineur Intense Liquid Eyeliner }
Stars: ✰ ✰ ✰ ✰ ✰
Price: $8.48

My sephora liquid liner ran out so instead of ordering from sephora, I ended up at Walgreens and found this treasure. Love, love, love, love, LOVE this liquid liner. It’s dramatic, it’s bold, it’s intense, and it made people compliment my beautiful eyes. With other brands of liquid liner, I usually had to go over the line to make it bolder, but with Loreal’s Lineur Liner, I didn’t have to. A rare find in the drug store makeup world. It truly is a jem!

{ Dial | AntiOxidant Body Wash, Cranberry }
Stars: ✰ ✰ ✰ ✰ ✰
Price: $5.79

This body wash is one of those things I didn’t expect to replace my Mango Mandarin flavor Body Wash from Bath & Body Works. This body wash is rejuvinating. To me the scent is like a mixture of exotic fruits: grapefruit, mango, mandarin, passion fruit, and cranberry. I absolutely love the way the bathroom smells after taking a shower with this body wash. If they made a lotion with this fragrance, I guarantee it will be in my purse. I highly recommend it.

{ Neutrogena | Moisture Shine Lip Soother }
Stars: ✰ ✰ ✰ ✰ ✰
Price: $5.89

Comparable to Lancome’s Juicy Tubes, this lip gloss is top notch! Not only does it give your lips a fresh tingly feeling, it smells good too. The consistency is less thick than Lancome’s Juicy Tubes – making it the more perfect.

{ Sonia Kashuk | Full Glam Eye Lashes }
Stars: ✰ ✰ ✰ ✰
Price: $9.99

These eyelashes are awesome! I loved the way they made my eyes POP. My only gripe about it is the glue it came with. The glue is inside a tin tube so it dried up a lot faster than if it were in a plastic tube. When I squeezed it, liquid bubbles gushed out. It made the most pitiful sound. I then punctured the tube body with a thumbtax. The glue inside was solid and rubbery. Not good. I ended up purchasing my regular brand of Duo, eyelash adhesive. Other than the glue, these eyelashes are super glamorous in a faux natural kind of way.

Alternative Uses: Contact Lense Case

February 5, 2010

When I was a freshman in college,  I couldn’t believe how many people wore contact lenses (including myself). We, as students, lived two identities: the cool, savvy, contact-wearing co-ed by day, and then the intelligent, serious, eye-glass wearing students by night burning that midnight oil. Since my freshman year took place in the late 90′s, eye wear was not exactly fashionable, similar to the eye wear these ladies wore in this funny Diet Coke commercial circa 1994. The sad thing is that I remember watching the commercial play on TV and thought nothing bad of the fashion sense. lol.

Nonetheless, most of us (who wear contact lenses) throw away our old contact cases… but DON’T THROW THOSE JEMS AWAY!! Below are alternative uses for old contact lens cases (wash thoroughly before using).

1. Urban Decay Primer Potion Container

Those of us who use UD’s Primer Potion know that even when it seems empty, it really isn’t – so we depot it to another container. Here are two useful methods in videos form on how to depot UD Primer Potion: Cutting method, Microwave method.

* Although it’s not recommended to store the Primer Potion in a plastic container (since it will dry up), it can be stored in a contact lens container for temporary purposes. I’ve given a friend a sample of the primer through the use of my old, sanitized contact lens case. It didn’t dry up as quick as other plastic containers.

2. Pressing Mac Pigments

When you can’t afford to buy makeup pans for pressing pigments, you can either make your own pan, or use old contact lens case to press pigments. If you decide to press pigments in your contact lens case, the key is not to make it thick. If it’s too thick, the pressed powder will not dry as well.

*Size of coins for pressing vary depending on the size of your contact case.

3. Storing Lotion

As much as I love big handbags, there are occasions when a small clutch is desired: evening out, social events, etc. But even some trial size lotions wont fit in your petite bag, and if it does, it’s not your brand of lotion. There’s a solution for that.

If you are like me who can’t live a few hours without dry hands, then make use of the small space in your bag and store some lotion inside a contact lens case. Simple!

4. Store Your Pills: Vitamins, Medications, etc.

No need to buy those bulky vitamin organizers from the pharmacy. Storing your daily pills in a contact lens container will not only save you money, but also space in your purse. My vitamins fit in perfectly.

* This idea is great for those who take weight loss pills. Put the morning pill in the right side of the container, then the afternoon pill in the left side of the container.

5. Lipstick/Lip Gloss Container

Don’t throw away your favorite shade of lipstick when you think you’ve used it all up! It’s time to dig in to the base of that lipstick and depot it to your sanitized contact lens case.

You can also mix different shades and make a new color concoction of your own. Here’s a video of How to Mix Your Own Shades of Lipstick.

6. Storage / Clean Individual Lashes

I prefer to use individual faux lashes instead of the regular ones. Although these individual lashes take a lot longer to apply to the lash line, in my opinion, it looks more natural and the control placement is better. If I feel artsy, I’ll probably use one of those funky fresh eyelashes by Make Up Forever.

Old contact lens cases can be used to either store these individual lashes or used to soak and clean them neatly. I found that soaking to clean the regular lashes work just as well.

7. Ear Bud Protector

A member of Instructables.com came up with using contact lens case as ear bud protectors. It’s an insightful and creative idea.

“You simply cut away enough material from the side of the case to accommodate the stem of the ear bud when the cap is screwed back on. You can cut away the plastic to make a perfectly sized slot for your particular style of ear buds.” – Lifehacker.com

Click here for the instructions of this project.

8. Condiment Storage

Trying to save money by bringing food to work? Usually when I did this, I brought sandwiches and it pissed me off that I had to find a container just for condiments (the containers ended up being to big and bulky). I thought about taking extra packets from fast food joints but after a while, it made me feel guilty. So the next best solution is to fill my old sanitized contact lens case with my favorite condiments. What’s good about this is that it’s pretty much measured so I didn’t overdo the mayonnaise that I absolutely love.

9. Mouthwash

I actually got this idea from, Jennifer Budd, a radio announcer from NY/NJ. It’s quite a brilliant idea and have done it a few times myself.

Budd states, “Never be caught in public with bad breath again! You can fit almost an ounce of mouthwash in the compartments of a contact lens storage case. The only other thing you need to do is get to a bathroom for the official rinse and spit.”

10. Storage for Small Items

Whether it be ear plugs, little craft items, bobbles, beads, etc. it’s a solid container.

This is great for storing small jewelry for vacations: earrings, rings, pendants. Never lose or damage them again!

I’m sure there are a gazillion other uses for contact lens cases. Share your ideas by commenting! I’d love to hear from you. :-)
